Nickel Plating
Advantages of nickel plating
At Swain Plating we currently provide three types of nickel plating. They are bright nickel, electroless nickel, and black nickel. We are currently in the process of installing a fourth nickel plating process, satin nickel.
Electroless Nickel
Bright Nickel
Allthough bright nickel is a plating process that can serve as a stand alone coating, it is most often used as the under coating that gives chrome its shine. Bright nickel plating can fill or level small imperfections in the base metal that is being plated. The high luster of bright nickel can also be used as a look alike for polished stainless steel.
Electroless nickel has many properties which make it one of the most sought after functional coatings available. Electroless nickel has great lubricity, is very ductile, and is a very hard coating. Along with these properties, it is also one of the only plating solutions that will coat every where that the plating solution touches, including deep recesses, holes, and inside of pipes. Unlike electroplated coatings, electroless nickel will cover a part in the exact form as the original piece, making electroless nickel the perfect process for tight fitting or exact tolerance parts.
